Fifth Anniversary of coup d etat on 15 May
The coup d etat refers to the events of May 15th, 1934, as described The "15 May" Commemorative issue. In some catalogues it is stated that the reason for this issue was the anniversary of the new constitution. This is not correct, as Ulmanis had dissolved the parliament in 1934 and hesitated until his removal by the Soviets in 1940 to introduce a new constitution.
The stamps were valid for postage until August 31st, 1940. |
